Assistant Water & Wastewater Operator

The Town of Charlestown is accepting applications for a full-time position as an Assistant Water & Wastewater Operator.

Previous experience in municipal water and/or wastewater operations is highly desirable but the Town is willing to train the right applicant. Position requires a good general knowledge of skill and work practices, methods, tools, and equipment appropriate to water and wastewater systems operations and of public works construction and maintenance. Should have a good working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in the operation of utility equipment, power tools and working with potentially hazardous chemicals and substances. Must be able to comprehend and exercise work safety procedures as required by law. Applicants must have a good work ethic, positive attitude, be a hard worker and a team player.

Wages commensurate with qualifications and experience. Water/Waste Water Licensed Superintendent
Level 2 Facility


The Town of Charlestown is accepting applications for this full-time position. The Water/Wastewater Licensed Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and management of a Level 2 water/wastewater facility in accordance with state and federal regulations. This role requires a strong background in water and wastewater treatment, as well as leadership skills to manage a team of operators and ensure the facility operates efficiently and effectively.

QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field. • Valid Water/Wastewater Operator License (Level 2) issued by [State Licensing Board]. • Minimum of 3 years of experience in water/wastewater treatment operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role. • Strong knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes and equipment. • Excellent leadership and management skills. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to work effectively with regulatory agencies and other stakeholders.

Lifeguards Needed!

The Charlestown Pool is hiring! If you are 15 years or older this is a great summer job!   Lifeguard Certification and CPR/First Aid/AED Certification needed. PART TIME POLICE DISPATCHERS

The Town of Charlestown Police Department is seeking motivated, team-oriented people who possesses good problem solving and communication skills to join our team as part-time Police Dispatchers. These positions would:

Receive and transfer all information brought to their attention via the telephone, radio or in person, quickly and accurately.

The dispatching of calls-for-service for the Charlestown Police Department, the Town of Acworth,  and The Town of Langdon within their area of responsibility.  Generating and recording information in a written form, Monitoring officer activities, Using the SPOTS System (State Police On-Line Telecommunications System) for broadcasts and listings. To provide all emergency services with accurate information, as quickly as possible. To protect the lives of the public and officers in your charge, during your shift.

TRANSFER STATION ATTENDANT

The Town Charlestown is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Transfer Station Attendant. This position is part time and year-round. Weekly schedule is Tuesday through Saturday. Duties include but not limited to: Maintaining the recycling area and insuring the proper disposal and classification of all recycled materials. Assisting residents and commercial users in the appropriate placement of refuse and recyclables. Assist the Road Agent in all matters related to the operation of a solid waste/recycling facility. Additional requirements are a good working ethic, positive attitude, hard worker and a team player.

POLICE OFFICER - Open until filled

FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER OPENING – Must be willing to be a certified full-time police officer in New Hampshire. The Town of Charlestown Police Department is seeking a motivated, team-oriented person who possesses good problem solving and communication skills that is interested in working in a tight knit community where community policing is a priority.  The candidate selected will perform criminal investigations, crime prevention and community involvement assignments along with traffic enforcement. 

Minimum Requirements: Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen; must be 21 years old by the anticipated date of the agility test.  Applicants must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Candidates must meet the Physical Fitness Testing minimums and will be re-tested once every three years if hired.  Must be willing to be a full-time certified police officer in New Hampshire, or if certified in another state, must be eligible for certification with law package through the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council. The hiring process consists of a medical screening, physical agility test, Police Oral Board, polygraph examination, in depth background investigation, psychological evaluation, and drug screening. Fire Fighter and Rescue Department Members

The Charlestown Fire Department is seeking candidates for the positions of on call Fire Fighter and Rescue Department Members.  The Charlestown Fire Department is a multi-hazard department providing fire prevention, fire suppression, basic hazardous materials response, vehicle rescue and extrication, basic rescue, and first response EMS services for the citizens of Charlestown New Hampshire. 

The ideal candidate is a team player, self-motivated, honest, trustworthy, and dedicated.  They will be committed to lifelong learning, will be safety conscious, and able to take constructive feedback and incorporate it into future activities.   

All candidates will need to have a valid driver’s license and will undergo a background check.   

There is a particular need for candidates that have the ability to respond to calls for service during daytime hours Monday through Friday.   

There is a preference for candidates interested in obtaining both Firefighting and EMS certifications. Candidates will be expected to be enrolled in either a Firefighter 1 course or an EMS course leading to certification within 18 months of hire.

 DEPUTY BUILDING INSPECTOR

The Town of Charlestown is seeking a Deputy Building Inspector. This position is a part-time position with no benefits.

This position is responsible for inspection of commercial and residential buildings during various stages of construction and remodeling to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances and regulations.

Inspect foundation, concrete, steel, masonry, wood construction, framing, plastering, routine plumbing, heating and electrical installations and a large variety of other complex and routine building system elements.

Respond to citizen complaints and concerns; serve due process letters to violators as necessary.

Issue notices to comply on violations; maintain records of history of facts for possible legal actions.

Signing and issuing of permits and certificates of occupancy.

REQUIREMENTS: 1. High School Diploma or Equivalent. 2. Proven work experience as a Building Inspector - Specialized training in the building trades and/or code enforcement desirable. 3. Possession of an appropriate, valid building inspector certificate – or ascertain within the first year of employment with the NH Building Officials Association. 4. Knowledge of construction design techniques. 5. Advanced mathematical skills. 6. Ability to make difficult decisions. 7. Ability to read and understand blueprints and construction designs. 8. Ability to travel and work irregular hours

CEMETERY GROUNDSKEEPER

The Town of Charlestown NH is seeking to hire a part-time Cemetery Groundskeeper. This position will be for 30+ hours/week from April to October.

High school diploma or equivalent is required as well as a valid NH Driver’s License.

Responsibilities to include mowing lawns, trimming hedges, maintaining gardens, weed trimming, spring and fall cleanup preparing outdoor areas for various weather conditions. Groundskeepers would also be operating and maintaining garden and landscaping equipment.
